Patrick Smith is Senior Vice President of Service Delivery at Field Effect, where he leads teams responsible for Managed Detection and Response (MDR), incident response, threat hunting, and professional security services. Over the past decade, he has helped build and operate Field Effect's MDR capabilities and lead incident response investigations into ransomware, business email compromise, targeted intrusions, and other advanced cyber threats.
With more than 20 years of experience in cyber threat analysis and computer network operations, Patrick's background includes malware analysis, threat hunting, network and host-based investigations, and research into binary call graph analysis and network counter-surveillance techniques. He has coordinated responses to major threat campaigns and delivered advanced cybersecurity training in malware analysis, network analysis, and incident response. Patrick is a former DEF CON CTF winner, co-captain of the Samurai CTF team, and captain of Canada's first Royal Military College team in the NSA Cyber Defense Exercise.
